Sustainability Practices at Taylorweir

Taylorweir is committed in reducing its footprint in our part of the world. By partnering with “Sustainable Salons”, Taylorweir prevents 95% of all waste generated within the training salon, studios, and office from landfill.

Taylorweir are proud to partner with Sustainable Salons who believe that “unless an item can be ‘digested’ by nature for nature’s benefit, then it shouldn’t go in the ground or waterways”. By taking waste from salons, Sustainable Salons find the waste a new life as something else we need/want/love!

Not only does this partnership reduce Taylorweir’s own footprint but it serves to train students on how they can make a difference in reducing waste in their salons and in their life.

What waste does Taylorweir divert from landfill?

  • Colour tubes
  • Aluminium product cans
  • Foil
  • Hair
  • Paper/Cardboard/Magazines
  • Razor blades
  • Plastics
  • Excess chemicals
  • Unwanted tools
  • Copper
  • E-Waste

All collected ponytails 20cm or longer are distributed to charitable organisations to create wigs for those suffering from cancer or alopecia. Sustainable Salons is the largest donor of ponytails in the Southern Hemisphere!

Aluminium, foil, colour tubes, cardboard, paper, magazines, razor blades, unwanted tools and select disposables are sold for recycling, and the proceeds are donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest to provide meals for hungry people. A full head of foils provides a quarter of a meal to someone in need!

As a social enterprise, Sustainable Salons has always championed that the salon industry’s capacity to make a real difference is so much greater than imagined and Taylorweir are proud contributors to this enterprise.
